Gary L.F. Somers

Gary was a true son of New Westminster, being born and raised in the area. Gary was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1970, and started his law firm, Somers and Company in New Westminster in 1980 where he practiced and continued to be a thoughtful and contributing member. Gary served as a bencher of the Law Society from 1984 to 1995. He shaped much of the law in British Columbia in the area of child protection and was also respected by ICBC and by members of the insurance bar. Gary participated in numerous committees, including acting as Chair of the Discipline Committee. Gary was honoured by being appointed a life bencher and Queen’s Counsel.

Outside of work, Gary had a unique personal style as evidenced by his extensive collection of vintage cowboy boots and vintage cars. He was an incredible husband, father and friend who is missed by many.
